Grey Hair vs Grey Matter

Although experience has shown few exceptions, yet, grey hair is a universal symbol for old age. Most people who are well advanced in years have it in multiples. It is a type of hair that reveals amongst other things, one truth or the other about the person in question. Grey matter, on the other hand, is believed to be the bedrock of human intelligence quotient (IQ). In fact, it is our intelligence. It resides right within our cranial cavity (skull) while grey hair grows on the flesh covering the skull or any other part of the body. So, God has blessed the human race with both grey hair and grey matter – the former as an indicator (reminding us to get ready for reckoning) and the latter as a viable and efficient tool fashioned to bring about the change and transformation our society is dying for.

It is however very easy to assume (especially without deep thinking) that the grey-haired have grey matter in abundance. But this assumption is proven wrong in the face of scientific research and analysis plus practical cases we see commonly around us. The relationship between grey hair and grey matter is neither a direct nor an inverse proportionality! Grey hair is never a function of grey matter and vice versa. It is although natural to think that days speak and that multitude of years teach wisdom, yet we hardly realize this in practical experience. At some times, one cannot help but tremble at the depth of grey matter possessed by people with grey hair. But just almost immediately, one cannot just explain why some elderly figures are of shallow or little or no grey matter.

Here is what I think: When grey hairs only grow on the head while the grey matter within the skull is kept operational and sound, the Intelligence Quotient will keep increasing by the day. So, the older this person is, the more the grey matter. This, I think, is the ideal state. But when grey hairs do not only grow on the head but also on the mind, the Intelligence Quotient diminishes by the day. So here, the older this person is, the less intelligent he becomes! Another instance is when grey hair does not grow on the head but on the mind alone. Anybody in this most unfortunate category will remain economically unproductive right from his tender age till he crosses to the land beyond! Why? The reason is not far- fetched! His grey matter (supposed 10 billion neurones wired into his skull to achieve great and unprecedented feats that’ll leave his footprint in the sand of time) is already wearing out at the early stage.

Mark my words! What accounts for the grey hair on the head and the grey hair on the mind is different for each scenario! Old age brings grey hair on the body while mental indolence, lack of mental exercise and brainstorming, little or no ratiocination, general and comprehensive laziness etc make grey hairs grow automatically on the mind. One may find it pretty difficult to prevent grey hair from growing on his head (especially at old age), but you can diligently prevent same from growing on your mind! It is simply by putting the mind to good and productive use always. This is very expedient because as soon as the mind begins to grow grey hair; effectiveness, efficiency, tenacity and intelligence will dwindle. Also, creative ability and power to come up with loafbasket initiative will be difficult to come by.

The reason I am this concerned and particular about the grey matter is because everyone is abundantly endowed with it though very few of us put 10-15% of it to good use throughout our life time. The best solution or therapy for the global socio-economic problems is to have people in their numbers, who can naturally take the Initiative! Wait a minute! By way of definition, an initiative is a new plan for dealing with a particular problem or for achieving a particular result. It is also the ability to decide and act on your own without waiting for somebody to tell you what to do. Where then are the initiatives, you may likely ask? Good initiatives are products of well nurtured grey matter. The fresher the grey matter the more intelligent one is. The more intelligent you are, the more likely you are to come up with fantastic initiatives! We sleep and wake up with socio-economic surplus in our minds unused and untapped while at the same time we are surrounded by NEEDS crying for SATISFACTION, PROBLEMS longing for SOLUTION, QUESTIONS looking for ANSWERS and POVERTY-RIDDEN environment awaiting timely ACTIONS. The action point is to mobilize people who can naturally take the initiative. What is more? People who are loafbaskets by nature and who are capable of taking loafbasket initiatives.

It is high time you put your mind into meaningful use. Never allow grey hair grow on your one and only grey matter! There are a number of socio-economic issues that your grey matter can solve provided you realize its purpose on time. Never allow your mind grow old while you are young. Dare to be a loafbasket! Bring up at regular interval, loafbasket initiatives. Posterity may not forgive you if they come to meet problems you were purposefully and graciously wired to solve before their arrival. Be a loafbasket today! Take timely advantage of the socio-economic surplus embedded into the fibres with which the fabric of your life was woven.
